Antibiofilm activity of bromelain from pineapple against Staphylococcus aureus

Bromelain is a set of proteolytic enzymes usually obtained from pineapple (Ananas comosus). Although bromelain has distinguished therapeutic properties, little known about its potential against opportunistic pathogens related to wound healing complications, such as Staphylococcus aureus. This study aimed investigate the antibiofilm and antibacterial activity in 43 clinical strains S. aureus isolated chronic wounds blood cultures. Bromelain’s biofilm vitro was assessed by analyzing formation cultures grown presence 1% destruction after addition mature biofilms.
